Pretentious. Fine acting. His plays are good and this was probably one of them at one time. It would've worked better as a play. The "realism" of a movie - the fingers, the dead donkey, etc - are too graphic for a movie, for me anyway. They'd have worked better on stage where they'd be easier to watch.
