Ugh * intense eye roll* Where do I even start?
1. If you’re like me and plan on watching this without having read the book first; friends, we obviously need to read the book first because you can get lost. This movie was so disjointed. Whoever did the cuts needs to go back and redo it again.
2. The acting!!! Was it just me or did anyone else think that Blake Lively’s acting was horrendous. Also, what happened to character development? Justin‘s acting was good but in some of the scenes, he was giving intensity where there was no need for it. Like in the scene where Lily (Blake) goes up to him and hands him a notebook and tells him he forgot this. Justin looks confused and looks at the notebook and says “ Wait, This isn’t mine”. Lily (Blake) is all breathy and says “ I know I happen to love you too”. Ryle (Justin) then intensely walks up to her, tosses the notebook to the side on his way up to her and kisses her passionately. 🫢🤣 Who in the world wrote that!! 🤣
That brings me to my next point.
3. So many points in this movie were unbelievable. The movements and the way many of the romantic scenes played out weren't natural. Like at her best friend‘s party when they snuck and went to the room or when they first met and the intimate and extremely personal conversations they decided to have after only meeting each other a few seconds ago. Like come on!
4. And lastly, Lily’s (Blake’s) wardrobe. Was anyone else confused about what her aesthetic was? I know it seems silly to harp on a characters wardrobe, but it really sells you on who that person is. Like a lot of stuff in this movie that extremely disjointed, so were her outfits. Was she a glamour girl? Was she eclectic? Was she artsy? Was she punk with all those rings on every finger? Was she a tomboy? Who was Lily? Nobody knows…
In conclusion, if you’re heavily into cinema and the arts of cinema, I really think this movie will be like nails on a chalkboard to you. Not even kidding. I wasn’t even aware of all of the controversy that surrounded this film until after I viewed it, and desperately searched the internet to see if I was the only one who felt that way. Apparently, I’m not the only one. Let’s just say it makes sense that it was extremely messy behind the scenes because it definitely translated to the film. I read somewhere that Justin has his own original version of the movie and honestly, I would love to see his version and see how far this one diverted from that original script.
