Season 4 of The Boys totally jumps the shark. While Seasons 1-3 were captivating because of interesting characters, a promising set up between an evil corporation and it's layers of duplicitous connections with the government, and the ongoing reckoning between the public and their idealistic view of the superheroes they once adored, the showrunners of The Boys decided to put this all aside because they had something more important to do for Season 4.
And that was to take a sharp right turn, and make sure they do an obvious parody of the ensuing climate post-January 6th. And they do so without any subtlety or cleverness. It's clear that the showrunners all got together with 1 goal and 1 goal only: and that was to clarify just how evil and wicked right-leaning America is, and how they must be defeated at all costs.
Season 4 hammers home that Vought and Homelander and everything evil that they pursue is one-and-the-same with all that ties to conservatism.
This was an angle that was hinted at in previous seasons, and it was done with acceptable subtlety. But the cleverness that once was a hallmark of the show has been abandoned for literal word-for-word copy/paste from real-world political events and famous quotes from the likes of Trump and others.
The result is a product of sheer laziness and predictability, and an over-the-top assault on a portion of America that The Boys' showrunners have obvious contempt for.
PS: I'm a liberal. So don't worry, I'm not here to white knight for MAGA. I just thought the plot was contrived, predictable, and lazy.
