I've read the book and watched the movie with my daughter. She had no idea what was going on. Firstly the scenes are too short, they skip from one scene on to the next so quickly. You never hear that Nick's dad is a lawyer and he helped Nick get joined custody of Maggie, Jenna and Noah became best friends just like that? And who is Anna? Just some random girl Nick gave a ride once. Noah's character acted really bratty in my opinion. How did Nick's mom and dad met? These are just some of the questions my daughter kept asking me. But if you liked it I'm glad, I did enjoy the books. But I don't think it should have gotten screen time.
