If you like a good thriller to be carefully and thoughtfully put together, with subtlety, realism and skill, then Watcher is for you. Its underplayed narrative and sense of normality will have you living the part of Julia, as she tries to settle in to a new apartment and a new life in Bucharest with her husband.. The film explores a woman’s irrational fear as she keeps noticing what she thinks is a neighbour, starring at her from his window opposite, or that the same person has followed her into a supermarket. The sense that Julia is overreacting is downplayed, but detectable, which makes for a sound and believable story through this suspenseful and well directed plot. The jumpy moment is well done, as the story pulls you in, and in spite of where you think the story is going, the reveal is well crafted and convincing. The subtlety and understated rhythm only adds to this film’s clever journey. Well worth a watch.
