First off, David Chase seems to have ‘sold out’ as far as I’m concerned. The Newark Race Riots were never in any on the back stories that I recall from the Sopranos, and it seems that from Ferguson to Floyd, Mr. Chase was trying to cash in. I’d be willing to bet that there were more than a few rewrites that went on during those events. Whatever, back to the movie. This should have been released only on HBO.
Anyone going to it who wasn’t that familiar with the series (or only casually familiar) would have been scratching their heads the whole time. It was discombobulated and jumbled and you had to wonder who or what this movie was even about! Horrible writing! The Ray Liota twin? Really? I guess they couldn’t have Dickie go to a young Dr. Melfi while she was Interning at NYU, I guess even David decided THAT would be too much, jeez. What was this about??Race? Mafia? Tony? Dickie? Jr? Livia? What a ball of wax! No one to root for, no one to hate. Livia was portrayed accurately and Jr. was so-so. Seemed to be more of a “reparations flick” if you ask me. Awful.
