If you like Breaking Bad or Black Panther this is for you, well sort of. Extracurricular is a K-Drama not like any other. At first I thought this was due to Netflix as the producer, but I read that it is fully written, directed and produced by Koreans. Yeay go Korea, love the country and culture.
Lets start with what I like about the show. First it depict, that teenagers have decision to make on their future and there are consequence for their decision, and our protagonist are making bad decision. Still teaching this to young adults is awesome.
Second, it discussed taboos like sex services, juvenile crimes, underage sex and to some extent civil/individual right (is that a taboo in Korea?). If these issues are taboo than how could society acknowledge and face the social problem.
Third, you have to believe me when I say the story is realistic and relatable. This story can happen anywhere (think Nth room). I google in my home country if there was a case of teenager selling sex services online. To my surprise there are.
What we need to see in season 2,if Netflix decide to renew for a 2nd season, are characters development. Extracurricilar is jam pack, with action and teenage drama. But I had hope to see character development for Ji-soo, Min-hee, Gyu-ri and Ki-tae. Other wise what is the point? We need to see our heroes become better than they are right now. So we can hope that there is a silver lining for those that make mistakes, and not a despair of no escape.
