Hahaha Really?! Five or four stars??? I'd give it a negative 1.5! "Don't believe, don't believe, blah-blah..." I'd say, you should see it for yourself! At first I was very much excited to see this fourth installation of The Matrix. But, then again... I played, I watched, I conquered... -boredom and disappointment, that is. Good thing I didn't waste my effort watching it in the theaters, if it ever was ran on the reels. Quite oblivious, given this world-wide, catastrophe that kept most of us too busy to waste time on entertainment.
First off, the cinematography was like from a TV series. The picture quality was too crisp for the story plot, unlike the previous three installments were most effects, in general, integrated almost effortlessly.
The storyline was bland, dull or lacked depth. Unlike the trilogy that had more sense, intriguing statements that supported continuity or metaphorical or mind-tweaking phrases or lines that would rouse your brain cells.
The lighting also didn't match that well. The dark backdrop also tried to hide that they weren't on a location shoot.
The fabricated set was too, unadulteratedly, obviously, fabricated for my keen eye that wasn't even trying to be too observant! Need I be more redundant? It's like the ones being used for a stage performance! Sheeze...
Now I know that the matrix realm resides inside a virtual setting, but for crying out loud! Can't they have made it just like it's supposed to? To not obviously look like it's CGI? In respect to the predecessors?
The lines... Can it be any more obvious when the characters were being too explanatory when they didn't have to? Or, is it just the actors being bad with their expressions?
I was also expecting new characters for this fourth film. Just like what they did with the previous ones for each of the movies. New protagonists and/or antagonists possessing unique, new or intriguing abilities for each sequels.
The reincarnation of Smith, Morpheus and all of the other characters just like the other agents were subpar. Smith was too expressive and his head moved more frequently unlike before where he was more of a relaxed or chilled character. Morpheus was a bit livelier. The agents were too angry with their facial expressions.
The fight scenes were too messy, jam-packed, cluttered and disorganised. No new, surprising choreography, either.
Alright, I think I'm done here. Just watch it. You don't even have to TRY and observe. I patiently endured watching it for the sake of the trilogy.
P.S.
A Matrix Knock-off
