“As someone who had demonized sex at a young age, this was heavy to watch every chapter. I deeply understand the weight, guilt, and tendency to hate oneself to the point of abuse, hurting others, and ultimately, the obsessive acts of self-destruction, with little to no possibility for redemption. This movie is brilliant and is not meant for everyone for good reason. You can’t completely appreciate a movie concept such as this if you haven’t been into a similar hellhole yourself. If you do appreciate it without having experienced that, consider yourself with high EQ and empath for people who are undergoing and have undergone related horrifying encounters like these. The important thing is, if you don’t appreciate this film, then watch a lighter one that doesn’t tackle plots this dark. Have respect and move on.
Like the ending’s message, this is just one of the many stories of how a woman spirals detrimentally. There are still millions of women out there with other traumatizing experiences brought by their mental health, deviant desires, and particular practices (culture/religion/societal norm — ex. FGM). Let’s not forget of course, the people around them who were directly affected too to their own despair and demise.
Recognizing when to seek for help is the most critical step towards spiritual and psychological recovery. If one fails to get the help they need, their threshold blurs and spills til they’re drained out of life, morality, and clarity completely” (Stress-Diathesis Model)
