Absolutely terrific. Strongly nuanced & dramatic story line, historically informative, passionate acting, romantic/moving soundtrack, beautiful set designs -I’m running out of celebratory adjectives! Stayed up all night to watch entire series. Just listen to Andrea Bocelli’s rendition of “Amapola”- have English translation of lyrics ( surprising)
& saved to playlist. It brought a renewed respect and empathy for all American Immigrants. My Irish forebearers arrived in Boston MA appx 50 yrs earlier. They endured similar hardships. The fights and prejudices between immigrant groups-Irish, Italian, & Blacks were bitter/brutal, as all three jockeyed for a piece of the American Dream.
I’m so grateful for them all. They’re to be honored as an integral part of American History-as important as the Tea dumped in Boston Harbor which sparked the Revolution in 1776.
I want to re-watch the series immediately, but will resist, pondering its’ people/lessons. I’ll listen to Bocelli’s voice, appreciating the heartbreak of leaving one’s country of origin, never knowing if, maybe not even able to dare to hope to return.
Ci vediamo la prossima volta
