King of Kings” Reflections is not appropriate for children or families. The film focuses heavily on graphic violence — including scenes where crowds scream “Kill him!” — and disturbing depictions of torture and crucifixion. Instead of celebrating Jesus’ teachings of love, humanity, and compassion, the movie rushes through a shortened version of the historical events, quickly moving from one event to the other which makes it even confusing. It is centering almost entirely on Jesus’s suffering.
The message feels outdated, pushing the idea that Jesus died to “pay for our sins,” rather than focusing on the true spirit of his mission. For today’s audiences, especially children, the film is more confusing and upsetting than inspiring. I wish it had offered a modern, meaningful take on hope, kindness, and the betterment of humanity, instead of dwelling on violence and guilt.
