If it wasn't for Martin Lawrence this movie would have been a major disappointment. Smith knew he needed Lawrence to help him out of the hole he put himself in, and he was right. You have to give the audience what they want, and it worked. It doesn't seem like Lawrence will be returning for the next one though, due to his failing health.
