Wonderful portrayal of Appalachian Ohio and its inhabitants in the time of Prohibition and moonshine. Thought it was no accident that her liquor kingpin from Cincinnati character had the first name of George since in reality the kingpin in Cincy at the time was George Remus. Lots of history put in this book in fiction form. The main character, the sheriff Lily was inspired by Maude Collins the first female sheriff in Ohio in 1926. The Moonvale Tunnel inthe book is Moonville Tunnel in Zaleski State Forest. And the Hollows of the book is the former State Hospital in Athens now known as the Ridges and still considered haunted. The characters are all strong women chaffing at the roles they expected of them. Agood read.
