THE NEW JEOPARDY: Jeopardy used to appeal to a wide swath of the broadcast TV viewership. It has still many loyal fans and I understand why. I’m not one anymore. Been watching since I was a kid because my mom watched. Since Alex passed Jeopardy has ceased to be about trivia, and is more and more about highly specific, extremely unmemorable details about literature, history and assorted subjects that classify as minutiae, not trivia. A lot of viewers who used to be amazed that anyone could answer trivia questions haven’t noticed. But the turn to such measurably unimportant details encourages only those like Jennings, who obviously has some form of eidetic memory and absolutely zero personal appeal. To be honest, they should change the name from Jeopardy to Ken Jennings OBSCURITY so as not to tarnish the Jeopardy name when this looser fails.
