Stumbled across this MASTERPIECE when a clip of it showed up in my YouTube recommendations. Don't let its cutesy art-style fool you--this show is surprisingly mature and scarily relatable in its portrayal of its characters. Every individual feels amazingly, uncannily REAL.

Tanaka's downward spiral into his gambling addiction was something I felt on a spiritual level, and I don't even play gacha games. Some feelings just transcend experience.
(SPOILER END)
The plot is also very intricate and keeps you on your toes. Background clues are everywhere, and theories on what is happening/what happens next are fun to formulate.
Another thing I have to applaud is the flow of dialogue. Odd Taxi is very dialogue-heavy. But the voice-acting and script-writing make it bearable; nothing drags and everything is concise. Nothing that doesn't need to be said is said. Straight to the point and witty. No over-dramatic gasps or sounds that you normally find in anime. Voice actor for the protagonist captures the essence of a jaded forty-one-year-old man. The rest of the characters' personalities are also reflected in their ages, but nothing too in-your-face. The kind that makes you take a step back after watching and think: "Huh. I know someone like this. [This character] reminds me of [so-and-so]."
Probably the best television I've seen in a long, long time. One of the only anime shows I've ever bothered to review. Gritty and brave without being unnecessarily gory or violent. Clever writing, smooth dialogue, fleshed out characters, and palpable tension that keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat.
5/5, would highly recommend.
