I guess the best thing I can say is that I’m glad I didn’t pay to watch it in the cinema and waited to watch it on HBO.

As others have mentioned, the effects are pretty good but the plot was just outright bad. Forced and contrived events and dialogue just to make the plot move. Thankfully I watched this movie on a transatlantic flight and didn’t actually pay good money to see it.

Having now watched all 10 episodes, I don’t even remember the first name of the winner. Nor do I actually care as I wasn’t invested in in any player, especially not this one because this person wasn’t a “known” at all until later episodes. I had no investment in the character. Ultimately, in the end, it was just boring and a Squid Games wannabe.

I know a lot of people wrote reviews saying that this movie was funny, but I don’t know what movie they were watching. It is not funny at all. It is not believable in the least. I know it is supposed to be a lighthearted family Christmas movie, but it’s just bad.

I never saw in the theater, I just watched it on TBS and it is absolutely horrible. Thank God I did not waste money in the theater to watch this dumpster fire.

This movie is so horrible. I don’t even know where to begin on the review. It’s just embarrassingly bad.

I have been a Tolkien fan for many years, having first been introduced to the Hobbit in the 1980s when I was in 7th grade. I loved the LOTR novels and thought the movie adaptations were fantastic. I know many people had issues and problems with the Hobbit adaptation to film, but for the most part I thought those were wonderful films as well. When I heard this series was being announced I was quite excited and though I heard chatter that many people were not overly excited about this I went in truly with an open mind. Overall it visually looks stunning, but for the amount of money per episode they are spending on this, it better be. I’ll watch the entire season and change this from two stars to whatever it ends up, if I deem it better but until then…but I am only giving this two stars because the story is just outright boring.

The only redeeming part of this movie is the beauty of the South African nature park this movie was filmed at. The rest of this horrible movie is an abomination and insult to: (1) African people as a whole. (2) The intelligence of anyone who watches this. So to paraphrase from a funnier Adam Sandler movie, Billy Madison: At no point in the rambling, horrible plot of this movie was this even close to anything that could be considered a work of art. Everyone who saw this film is now dumber for having watched to it. I award this one star (because Google forces at least one), and may God have mercy on my soul for having wasted my time.

Horrible. It’s just really really bad.

After the first episode I felt like ”Been there…done that” and don’t want to do it all over again. Won’t continue watching it.
