Had someone told me I’d enjoy reading a book about a building, I would have said they were crazy. This book about Mar-a-Lago though, was about our culture, early feminism, the development of Florida, love and loss, the never ending tropes of the thankless child and that we are born and die alone. So, in a nutshell, the book was quite thought-provoking and marvelously worded, for Shanklin is a consummate story teller. And yes, I now really want to see this building! Good writing.
