This movie compared to the actual book was portrayed very poorly in my opinion.....Wright was trying and attempting to show the realities and struggles of what African Americans and minorities went through at that time period; and that time period being the 1930’s. This takes place in present day. It was as if the writers, producers, and directors of the movie read the Native Son book that was censored. They left out very crucial parts within this movie that were in Wright’s book, and I thought that the movie didn’t give the novel enough credit where it was due. Before you go and write a review about a movie based on a novel, read the book first, and then you’ll have a good perspective on things. Native Son is a classic, and I thought this movie deserved a 3/10.
