Clever and gentle series, no smut, no bad language and based on characters which I am sure the writer knew.
We all know a Nora Batty and Pearl.
Theme tune apt and beautifully orchestrated, I have willed it to be used at my funeral.
The 'Just a small funeral' episode still reduces me to tears.
Maybe the series should have ended there.
I visited Holmfirth in the 90's, delighted to see for myself Compo's flat and Ivy's cafe.
The most irritating character for me was that of the paranoid non-spy, Obbo, and his quest to find his mother. I did not think it related well to the original theme about retired elderly gentlemen.
I hope that the series will be remembered for many decades yet.
