Eggers has disappointed me with this film. I have been an admirer of his work, but I crumbled under my own expectations of what this film would deliver. I left the cinema wondering—was this really necessary? I respect his creative vision; however, in my opinion, this was not it. I wish I could be more articulate and express with fancier words what felt wrong, but all I can say is that it just didn’t feel right. My heart wasn’t racing, the storytelling didn’t leave me in awe, the mise en scène felt unoriginal, and I was, frankly, screaming for something to admire. I wish him all the best for his next work and hope it brings a smile to my face.
