I reviewed this series when I had watched four episodes and gave it one star, then kept watching to see whether my choice of suspect was correct. Having watched to the bitter end, I can say that I was half right, and can I please reduce my rating from one to half a star? What absolute nonsense. The biggest mystery is how at least two reputable newspapers could publish glowing reviews. There is so much wrong with this. A couple of specific complaints/queries:
1. Why the cell search that uncovers a phone? Convenient for the plot, obviously. But what instigated it? And why would a smart and seasoned prisoner hide a phone in one of the most obvious hiding places of all time.
2. How come the police charged someone with murder when he was clearly not competent to participate in an interview, and required a mental health assessment. And what the hell was his solicitor doing? Nothing, apparently.
3. And then … he is charged and taken to a prison 150 miles away where his foster father just happens to be. What, no cells closer? He has not been tried or convicted, so presumably there will be some sort of court hearing soonish. Don’t police stations in Wales have cells?
There are many more, but some involve spoilers, so three will do. And, if all the wobbly plot points aren’t enough, there’s the oh so predictable and boring ‘love’ triangle - gawd! The actors rekindling their relationship didn’t seem all that convinced and I certainly wasn’t.
I feel sorry for the actors who - mostly - seem to be trying, while contending with a pretty bad plot and a worse script.
Don’t watch it.
