**SPOILERS**
UGH this book was so good until it wasn’t. I love McFaddens books most of the time but making the MC/narrator the main plot twist after providing zero accurate information about them for 80% of the book is just lazy writing in my opinion. There need to be SOME “aha” moments where you can look back and say “oh that’s why they said this or did that” but there was almost none of that.
And also yes slashing someone’s tires is obvi bad but resorting to murder instead of owning up to slashing someone’s tires is… an interesting choice for a character. I wish the crime she had committed beforehand was more intense so that the stakes were higher. And also this woman has an MD and PHD and clearly had common sense for most of the book but decided to stash a dead body under her own floorboards? And then the MC calls her out on it later for how stupid that is but then stashes the other dead bodies in her own backyard? What?
Yes, the plot twist caught me by surprise but only bc there were absolutely ZERO clues leading up to it and the narrator was lying the entire time about absolutely everything.
