Seems the Voice is like Dancing With Stars, an audience popularity contest! Chevel's high school, and the town likely voted for her to win, regardless of her lesser talent that Kurt and Kennedy Holmes. We have watched and enjoyed "The Voice" for quite a few years, and when my husband read who won, one half hour into the final show, we watched KPBS instead.
