After listening to this album a turf war began in my brain, a turf war over my favorite album. While ultimately "Dark Side of The Moon" won over this album, this album is a worthy second place. "Oracular Spectacular" is indeed an oracular spectacular. While future MGMT albums seemed to make a decision to be either experimental ("Congratulations"/"MGMT") or to be poppy ("Little Dark Age"), "Oracular Spectacular" juggles both sides of MGMT perfectly; with more experimental track like "4th Dimensional Transition" and "Of Moons, Birds, and Monsters" and more poppy tracks like "Electric Feel" and "Time to Pretend". Perhaps this is best demonstrated by the similarly named "Kids" and "The Youth" ; with "Kids" being a straight pop banger, going so far as to even be four chord song, and "The Youth" being the ultimate lighter/phone flashlight song, that just makes you want to sway gently while blinding the performer at a concert. The instrumentals all feel incredibly unique, a collage of everything from punk to indie to synth to pop, always staying fun and exciting. This album is, in my opinion, the best album of the 00's.
