This is not a patch on the original movie. I'll tell you exactly what this is. You ever buy one of those movie anniversary blu-rays and they have bonus extras. One of those bonus extras is sort of a newer, the cast now type of thing. Imagine if you bought a band anniversary blu-ray and it was a the cast now type of thing. For reasons unknown instead of a nice and tidy 30-60 minutes. It's stretched to almost 90 minutes. Your getting an extra. There is no REAL new music. They hum a few ditties that are original. I think two. They play their post movie song Bitch School for a few seconds. They play parts of a couple classics with Elton John and Paul McCartney. Plus cameos all around that go nowhere. They are just there to pad out the film. The Blue Man Group's drummer is there. It's fun to see, moderately amusing but not really creative. Then this all leads up to a big concert which frankly, we all have to suspend disbelief as to why anyone would still want to go. They did nothing to make Spinal Tap an arena band. Let alone be happy and cheer that it is Spinal Tap. Which they do. The jokes are less and mostly lame. You heard the best ones in the trailer. There isn't much better. Rob Reiner TRIES to replicate some "to 11" with the amp setup thing in the movie. It feels so forced and absolutely so unfunny. It's just amazing, he devoted two scenes to try and MAKE THIS A THING. Yes, it is stupid the sheer amount of pedals guitarists use, that doesn't make it funny. This is a glorified bonus "Where are they now" extra. Some charm, some neat moments. It's one hour and 23 minutes long (that was a bad thing even back when movies where shorter, under 90 minutes means there is a problem) and it's too long. It feels like a 30 minute where are they now bonus feature, stretched out to almost 90 minutes. The ending is fun but not fun enough. There is no creativity. Oh the manager is the daughter who dresses like the old manager. Well comedic genius....let see this thing twice. This movie has me hoping Spaceballs 2 gets cancelled.
