People have already provided excellent reviews regarding the content of season 3. I completely agree with their distaste for the writers going way overboard on trivial (or made-up) events.
I really enjoy this series and it is one of my favorites..... at least until season 3. For some reason, it is very unlike the first two seasons.
This season is lacking terribly.
1. The most obvious difference is the lack of major characters that appeared constantly in seasons 1 & 2. If you are watching this show you know what I'm talking about. Where is Lord Alfred's wife? Where is Ernest, Prince Albert's brother? Where is Victoria's mother? Uncle Leopold? These people were in every single episode of the other seasons and don't appear once in season 3. Their absence is glaring.... and frankly, depressing.
2. Jenna Coleman, whom I have thoroughly enjoyed as the lead character, drives me crazy in season 3. Why? Her voice. Every single line in season 3 is delivered with such an odd and droll inflection that is very annoying. I'm sure someone else could describe it better than me. She did not speak like this in season 1 or 2. She even speaks this way to her children. It's not her choice of words, it's the way she delivers them. I can't properly describe it. It's her tone. It sounds like a haughty woman who is mocking someone behind their back. Very condescending. And she does this with EVERY SINGLE LINE.
I hope they continue on to season 4. But I hope that it mirrors the efforts made in season 1 and 2.
