Rating this show for me right now is premature considering that I have only watched the 1st episode; it was 5/5 nonetheless as to why I decided to say my piece about this series, here it goes:
Today You could watch other series which have redefined perfection and go beyond that (mentioned below) but if you are a fan of this genre like myself, and feel like for the past few years every NEW entry has been nothing but utter copy-paste disappointment, well I got some good news, the way forward is to go back and watch Mentalist
First I gotta say this: do I expect it to be the same caliber as my own all-time favs of each aspect of a Crime/Drama series, Probably not, although I'm not saying it won't exceed my expectations set by:
BBC Sherlock: -the most realistic, sophisticated, and complex one-look-explainer. -Hands down some of the finest tailored characters and relations, ie. Sherlock-Watson-Greg, Sherlock-Adler-Mycroft, Sherlock-Mycroft-Watson-Magnussen (one of a kind antagonist), and last but THE BEST, Scott's portrayal of good old Moriarty (Equivalent to Heath Ledger's Joker) and Sherlock-Moriarty-Adler-Mycroft-Watson
Given the format of the Sherlock series, it's a bit unfair to weigh other series against it, This is the Holy Grail but the overall run-time and episode-per-season wise It's not in the same category so off to the next one eh?
Rust, Marty, and Errol the Yellow King in True Detective:
I don't think Mentalist or any other show be it Crime/Drama or straight up Non-Fic Documentary could ever go against this one in regards to spritual and philosophical roots of criminology studies and social manifestation of immersion in that school of thought; So I think this one is out of equation too, next one
Graham, Lecter, and Crawford in Hanibal: Seemingly the most similar one to the Mentalist; but this one can't be described in a few sentences dare I say 20k words essay wouldn't be enough
Having said all that, I DO REALLY enjoy watching this series and encourage skepticals to give this one a chance.
