The acting is amazing. The world it portrays is, I'm hoping, inaccurate. These people spend the first 2 episodes telling lies to each other. They treat a widow as if she has a disease and cannot be considered as a wife. The shame of a husband leaving the main character's sister is so great she lies to everyone about it. And a baal teshuvah is mocked as "confused." Even Jews who participate in Chabad are viewed as a rebbe worshipping Messianic cult. The show is well done as far as acting and storyline, but if the culture it represents is accurately depicted then a Jewish woman like me would be ostracized and condemned for not being part of that world. That is a terrible cruelty to treat other Jews that way and to exclude them from becoming part of the community just beacuse they were not born into it is shameful. I sincerely hope this is not an accurate depiction.
