I am Ron's younger brother and only sibling. My family and I were so sad when he passed away in Idaho Falls in December 2015. He was a dedicated railroad historian and author who wrote about twenty books over a period of around 35 years. He specialized in photographing and writing about steam engines both domestically in the U.S. and railroads across the world. Ron's main claim to fame is documentation of railroads behind the so-called "Iron Curtain," notably the former Soviet Union and other communist countries. Ron & I were raised in Queens in New York City and in suburban Long Island. -- Bob Ziel
