Was annoyed throughout the movie. Was excited that mental illness was going to be apart of it but did not capture the idea of it as great as I would have wanted it to. 13 reasons why did a better job at it. As someone who dealt with many disorder labels and mental illnesses and personal and very traumatic events growing up, I am 21 today, this movie was awful and did not capture any of it very well. Cringed and rolled my eyes every time the male character spoke. Reminded me of the way that the male character in the Fault In Our Stars spoke, unrealistic and irritating as the writers were trying too hard to make him sound captivating. People calling the male character a “freak” because he gets in fights is also not realistic. The way the high school is set up in the movie is nothing like high schools in real life. No one cares about anyone in real high school settings. I can go more about the characters but what I really wanted to get across is that if you are going to make a movie or book based around a mental illness or a post traumatic event, make the character do and say realistic things; not what you think people who lives with trauma or an illness may react just for a movie. Although it may make those who lives with depression due to a legit chemical unbalance without a traumatic past, no not a car accident or a time where you were robbed or whatever, see it as a great movie, it does not speak to people like me who actually has gone through real and tragic events one after another growing up and have multiple disorders and mental illnesses. This movie is just very insulting
