As many, I was pretty excited to see the new movie since Enchanted was a great movie I have loved. My expectations were already somewhat low since sequels are usually never as good as the first, but I still had hope for it. But of course, I was let down worse than I expected.
To start, I think disenchanted completed strayed from the whole idea of the first movie. Enchanted was about making fun of the fairytale stereotype. About what would happen if a fairytale Disney character met with reality. It was an amazing concept and very fun to watch. The cheesiness was meant to be laughed at, and was often kept short and coherent with the plot. The songs were also very catchy, and was spread out between the movie so it wasn’t annoying. It was creative.
Now when we look at disenchanted, it just felt very slow and strayed away from the first movie. At the end of Enchanted we saw how Giselle started her own fashion business and became more of a normal girl, but that wasn’t at all represented in the sequel. She was still just as cheesy, and didn’t seem to understand common social cues that she would have definitely picked up by now. The plot just doesn’t add up, and just feels all over the place. It wasn’t funny, and it really seem to direct towards little kids entirely. The singing is also absolutely annoying since they’re doing it every 3 min within the film. The songs aren’t even catchy.
The only thing I liked about the film was the actors, cuz they still did a great job doing their role and I enjoyed getting a glimpse of the animated world again, but the writing and the direction of the whole film is boring and horrendous. It literally felt like an excuse to use excessive CGI.
