Disney tried to do too much too fast. This series was full of misdirection and money throwing with no real clear path as to where it was actually headed. George Lucas, Mark Hamill and even John Boyega have expressed their displeasure with the current series in some way. This series took what George Lucas worked so hard to create and swayed it in order to cater to merchandise sales. The list of problems goes on and on. It's all there clear as day and easy to see. The misdirection of this series will go down in history as one of Disney's greatest failures.
Some of the worst scenes in TLJ:
1. Purple haired chick who has no weight as a character goes down with the ship. Why do we even care about her? You'll kill her off and make her look like a legend but Admiral Akbar gets the boot like he wasn't even a big deal.
2. Luke's character was the opposite of who he was. He would never act like that. Even Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker stated this.
3. Killing off Luke was a mistake. His story and legacy deserved much more.
4. Luke's scene with him getting milk made no sense.
5. Using warp speed as a weapon makes no sense. Why didn't they just do this all the time...
Rian Johnson's quest to "subvert expectations" effectively crushed any hope of there being a Star Wars with a bright future. As a fan it really seems like this series is dying and every story from here on out seems pointless/difficult to become excited about.
