This is an old school RPG. Very old school. It's from 1992 so trying to play it today would feel like an even bigger grind then it originally was. That said I have some happy memories watching my brothers playing this game and did eventually beat it myself as an adult.
While the game itself suffers from pacing issues due to being an actual dungeon crawl (they don't really make games like that anymore) this game has one of the most amazing sound tracks you can find in a midi game. You can hop into youtube and look up "Arcana final battle" to get a taste of it. But imagine this:
You have entered the final castle where the sleeping empress of death awaits with your friends you have made along in your journey. As you approach the final room, horrible enemies block your path. Time is of the essence. Your allies volunteer to hold back each horrendous enemy, so you can keep moving forward. They are basically agreeing to die so that the world can be saved. As your last ally parts ways with you to hold them back, you enter the boss chamber. There she sleeps, parts of her awake attacking you. With only your elemental allies now, you are able to subdue the slight consciousness that is awake. You attempt to seal her away for good, but it's too late. She awakens, a woman with monstrous wings and dragon heads. With one blow destroys your elemental and knocks you down to almost death. As your begin to fall into blackness, giving yourself to death... voices are heard. Your friends, your allies, the whole world is cheering for your success. This unlocks the final piece as you combine the treasures you spent all game collecting into the final sword. And now the fight truly begins, as you finally have the means to fight back. Queue final boss song "Second Armageddon." Still holds up to this day.
So can I recommend this game as something to actually sit and play? Only if you are into really old RPGs. Otherwise just watch some play-through or just the last bit on youtube and enjoy the badass music.
