The grimy reality of most bottom rung jobs with the addition of 'look away' collusion that eats the soul. Great atmosphere created by set design, limited dialogue, background dialogue and eye/non eye contact messaging. Do you carry on?

Lang seemed have a thing about 'the baying mob' and the consequences of an irrational emotional response backed up with the power of groupthink. Superb deconstruction of a complex situation and an incredibly thoughtful conclusion. Reminded me a bit of M, but playing the issue so much further. Genius. In my top 5 films, would love to have a seen a Hitch interpretation of the story, but still using Spencer Tracy, or maybe Jimmy Stewart , but not Cary Grant. Not sure he would ever bettered Fritz Lang's version though, some things are best left..
