A man called "Ove" made me chuckle, a man called "Ove" made me cry, a man called One made me laugh on page 183. A man called "Ove" is my best friend.
Don’t you think your favourite book can tell a lot about you as a person? And rolling out this piece of information in public is a bit too much.
I think it is, but here I am shamelessly telling people this one is going in the stack of my forever favourite books.
Well, you must all know the old grumpy Carl character from the house of Pixar called “UP”. Did you by any chance happen to fall in love with the mean old man?
If you did, I promise you this book written by Fredrick Backman will grow on you with each chapter.
To review this book in words, really gave me hard time. Penning down the simplicity of the complex 59 years old Man called Ove is difficult. Men like him are rare to be found.
But here I am all decked up to convince you to read this one heck of heartwarming story of life.
A man called Ove was one who thought the only correct way to live one's life was to be independent.
He was all painted in black and white, was economical in all his ways. He was the one who hated the change and drove Saab all his life.
His wife was however a lover of books, which One did not understand at all. For him, Maths made a better sense. But, he did build her a library, because he loved building and fixing things.
A man called Ove would wake up every day with a mission to move closer to his wife, to end his life and lie peacefully in the burial ground beside Sonja, but his day was always interrupted by some incompetent fools(this is what Ove would call them) around his neighbour. This is the story that grows on you with each chapter. It took me nearly 10 days to finish it because you can’t rush here. You would want to live with Ove. You would want to feel his annoyance. You would want to see him unwillingly fixing things with excitement. He is accompanied by a cat who is not even owned by him throughout the book and the way the cat has been made expressive with Ove facinates me. The way Ove talks to the feline will surely make one titter a bit.
A book filled with feel-good, heartwarming pages wrapped with comical moments with an ending that was simple and serene. Fredrick Backman, you have given me one of the best books of my life. I will cherish this. I will re-read it several times.
