This is going be full of spoilers so I apologize.
I had several issues with this remake.
First off, the whole movie feels rushed in developing characters. We get slapped with easy images of a happy family, but no real character development. We dont truly get to understand Louis' descent into insanity after the tragedy.
Secondly, they seriously downplayed Louis and Jud's friendship, which was a major part of the book. They instead showed them as just normal neighbors who hung out from time to time. Instead of having an almost father/son friendship like the source material depicts.
Thirdly, I understand trying to be creative and different by offing the other child this time, but that basically made them have to create a whole new story after that with just a few things from the original, like the ankle slicing.
Fourthly, the ended was just appalling. Causing them to come back as some sort of zombie family??? I have no words to express how hard I rolled my eyes.
And lastly, it just wasnt scary. It had loud noises, but those are cheap jump-scares. It didn't really have any true moments of horror.
It could have been an amazing remake. On par with the "IT" remake. They had great source material, great actors, and modern technology that could've accumulated into an amazing retelling of a classic. This movie is a surefire way to piss off Stephen King fans.
