This novel is angering, to say the least. In fact, it has made me so angry I cannot finish it. The character of Turk is unredeemable. In this era a novel like this, written by someone who has no personal knowledge of what it's like to be either Black Or a white supremacist, yet presumes to know their voices is beyond ridiculous.
One more note. I have worked in an emergency room. The fact that Ruth, supposedly a wonderful and highly skilled nurse, would not have called code blue on a newborn who had stopped breathing is ridiculous in the extreme. I kept yelling at the book, "Code blue! Call a code blue!"
So, for so many reasons, in this era of horrible racism and brutality and ugliness, this is a book I want to avoid at all costs.
