There are many bits of the movie that make sense on their own, and as an Iranian who’s spent most of his life in Iran, I can verify that such themes as corruption, hypocrisy, male chauvenism and so on are spot on. However, these don’t hang together very well as a whole. There is a fair bit of incoherence in the plot. It’s as if someone unhappy about the state of affairs in Iran and the prejudices is in a hurry to fit as many of them as they can in a movie. And what put me off the most was the plot. No one would take a one-off prank call so seriously. I mean come on!
