Not a bad show over all. A little frustrating at times when it comes to some of the major plot holes. And for any science buffs out there, it can be a bit of a doozy. Especially in regards to aspects of radiation, some medical stuff, some of the space travel/survival stuff, and other sciencey things in future seasons that again, make some pretty big plot holes. But come on, it’s sci-fi right? It’s definitely all about the strength of the matriarchy though. Strong, intelligent women take the lead while the dudes are more often than not followers. Which necessarily isn’t a bad thing, but It definitely makes it more of a chick flick.. I found it more than a little funny when it comes to the grounders, who value strength above all else, but pretty much always take their orders from a 5’6” 120lbs 20 something year old girl. And how a girl with maybe a few years of training, can cut down 6-12 dudes who’ve trained their whole lives like cutting through butter, but I digress. Strength comes in many forms I guess, so 🤷♂️ not a big deal. Besides, it’s definitely a thing that has be trending in tv shows and movies for awhile now and is just something we have to live with, whether it’s all around well written in or not. Characters in the show have a decent amount of depth and individuality. The overall plot is okay with plenty of twists and turns, although there’s plenty that’s flawed and totally unbelievable. But again, it’s sci-fi. Could have done without “Alie” but maybe be that’s just me (isn’t a nuclear holocaust enough?) you can decide for yourself when you watch season 3-4 I think it was. Shame about Ricky Whittle, he’s a great actor and was a awesome contribution to the show, but was unfortunately chopped due to conflict with the shows creator. Which is too bad, Lincoln was definitely my favourite character. Another thing that bugged me was how the mountain men called it “the ground.” To them, wouldn’t it be “the surface?” I get it with the ark survivors because they’re from space, but the mountain men lived under ground, but that’s just me being overly critical lol. The writers just obviously fell in love with that term because they use it a lot. A solid 3 out of 5 for me, but honestly, I might be being a bit generous, the first 2 seasons are definitely the best. I won’t get into too much more to avoid any more spoilers, and I’m not totally through it yet either, still working my way through seasons 5-7. Pretty good overall from what I’ve seen, but don’t hate yourself if you pass it over. If you’ve seen other shows/movies about the nuclear apocalypse, you’re not really missing anything.
