I think the show's first season starts off strong and finishes weak. The finale in particular is disappointing. Devoting at least a third of the season's run to the troll subplot and having it resolve the way it does is just pure anti-drama. It would have been infinitely more interesting if the mother had not been a red herring but the actual troll. The conflict with her boss also seems very one note and badly developed. There are many ways to get the main character to go on the journey she does and making the boss the fat-shaming equivalent of Snidely Whiplash is one of the laziest and most boring routes you could take to get there.
