Brilliant acting . The mother cannot bring herself to speak about her loss. That would make it even more real. For awhile it is still a bad dream that she inhabits.
When the girl brings innocence and love to her home by her youthful presence her son comes alive again. She can imagine they are both waiting for him to come home.
