I was pleasantly surprised as I was worried it would be a poor follow up to the original. First thing to note is that the kids in the audience were absolutely tuned in- even during the singing- very important as the lyrics provide the optimism and life messages. Knowing that the little ones/ young children were involved in the story line was critical. The movie encourages imagination and possibilities - lovely.
Emily Blunt protrayed Mary Poppins confidence, wit and quiet compassion for the children very well.
It was an enjoyable two hours that reminded me that possibilities and optimism go hand in hand. The music was good and perhaps will be memorable for the younger audience. ( not so much for the adults as I believe we are making comparison to the original score, perhaps we absorb music differently when much younger)
In general it was a decent rendition of Mary Poppins! 3.5/5
