The director of this film brings to light the horrifying implications of propaganda, and that even in free nations we are not immune to this. Yet I can’t shake off the contradiction, the idea that a women should have the right to her body IS propaganda, in my opinion. Let’s focus on the child here, the life inside her. We as a society should protect that, and life IS valuable. Abortion should not be anyone’s “right”, No one has the “right” to kill anyone, especially the innocent.
That being said, as an Asian person myself (not Chinese) i’ve been culturally exposed to this mentality (the sexism especially). When people don’t think they have a choice they are being cowards, they had a choice to not abandon/abort their girl to try for a boy. There needs to be some responsibility here. And I get it, maybe my view is one sided and maybe they felt helpless under the government’ lack of social support that they felt only boys can support them in old age. And, maybe, they’ve been brainwashed all their lives that they haven’t figured out that women are just as capable.
This documentary brings to light the situation in China, which was truly an abomination/genocide comparable to what happened during the Holocaust, in my opinion.
