I really hate doing this, i really hate writing this review, and nothing good follows this point.
Characters - None of the characters in this game are noteworthy. There is zero interpersonal conflict. Nothing on the level of DA:O, DA:2, or DA: I. All the characters seem infantalized somehow as if this game was supposed to be developed for children with zero attachment to the other games.
Settings - I have awaited a return to Thedas for ten years. Ive been a fan since the very beginning so the opportunity to see the Magistarium, Antiva, and so forth was something i hoped would just blow my mind. When that opportunity came around I thought to myself, “Are they serious?”
When you’re prompted to “explore darktown” etc my reply is “explore what?”
Story - it’s all elves. Every bit of it. It’s just the elves. Forget the chantry. Forget the maker. Andraste. You name it. It was all the elves in useless flashbacks when solas had hair. Forget Morigan being the daughter of Mythal.
Fighting style - dumb. It’s just repeat. Grind, grind, grind some more. Your powers aren’t tied to anything except a cooldown. You find weapons on the way, there’s no building anything, no style or modifications to be made. It’s the worst part of the game.
DID. NOT. FINISH.
Electronic Arts or BioWare, (or both) are continuing to crash and burn with these god awful choices since Mass Effect Andromeda, through Anthem (another flop) to Dragon Age: Veilguard.
With the success of Baulder’s Gate - which btw has set the standard now for RPG’s from this point forward, the executives at these institutions should be fired, those games pulled from distribution, and an apology sent out to the fans promising to get their acts together.
With the failure of this title, I am absolutely dreading a new Mass Effect game, which, after Andromeda , Anthem, and Veilguard -EA/Bioware has proven time and again that, “Yes, it can get worse from here.”
Shame.
