Plot is confusing to say the least. Much is left to the viewer's interpretation. I felt an immediate dislike of Cumberbatch's character, which I realise proves his acting skill. However, the actual cruelty to animals is by far the most unnecessary and gut-wrenching part of this piece. Humans can choose to take it, or fight back. Animals have neither choice, nor voice. I feel some regret having watched this movie, and although the cast and crew are lauded, applauded, and rewarded by many, this film is very dark and disturbing. 3 stars for location, sets, and acting skill only.
