Having read all of Louise Penny's Chief Inspector Gamache novels I am disappointed with the television series. My disappointment may not be due to the quality of the series but my own ingrained visions and feelings of the village and it's unique inhabitants. Those are the charms of the novels along with deep and complex plots. Thus far (8 episodes in) there has not been any sympathetic exposure of the residents and in fact a newcomer might have significant negative feelings towards them. The village appears inviting but again we have not had a chance to feel it's charm. The plot lines are made complex with a new parallel issue that of MMIW. This issue is extremely important and this series will do much to bring the issue forward as we face reality. However, because it was not part of the original novels readers are taken aback by its inclusion.
