The story lines have been all over the place since the end of book content, and every season after 4 aims to outdo each other in stupidity. The show has become about creating 'cool moments' by subverting 'fantasy tropes', without any regard to the fundamental themes of A Song of Ice and Fire. D&D long started playing to the audiences reactions, and they seem to care highly about the gotcha moment that can be easily translated into YouTube reaction videos. The past few seasons are as easily forgettable as a sugary popcorn fare.
