I really enjoyed it. One reported criticism was that the characters were not developed enough. If that was so, I do not think it was a major failing. There was good insight into their personalities and situations. It is an incredibly professionally researched work. The weaving together of Bible reports of the life of Jesus with other traditional speculations, and those of Kidd’s imagination worked so well. I was wondering how from her admitted non-religious position she was going to deal with post crucifixion events. As it happened our narrator and heroine, Jesus’ wife Ana was removed from the scene before any reports of resurrection could trouble or console her. Some may say it is a woman’s book. While all the important roles portrayed are female, quite an achievement in any story with Jesus in it, I saw no reason why I should not find it a fascinating read. I hope men and women, Christians and non-Christians, Bible students and those who have never picked up the Good Book, will enjoy it as much as I did.
