I really wanted to like this show and I really wanted Morena Baccarin to succeed. Unfortunately, the writers failed her and the show. It started out a little shaky as the back story developed. Got a little better but by the end of episode 3 I was so disappointed that I'm pretty sure I will never watch another episode. This woman is the sheriff in a remote county in....California? Really? It should have been someplace far more podunk, except they wouldn't have been able to tie "Fire Country" in and the actors would have had to speak with (probably bad) accents. And the story line? Have you ever known anyone in law enforcement? There are reports, procedures, standards, precedents. People in law enforcement know and trust each other. They don't wing it. They don't pick up the phone and call the district attorney on fellow law enforcement at every turn. Have you ever known the kids of anyone in law enforcement? I have and one thing they learn really young is how to respond when a crime is committed. They don't come up on a murder, touch the murder weapon, drop it and run, many blocks apparently, home to sheriff mom and ask what they should do. But a call to 911 would have completely destroyed the protracted family-related plot, leaving the show with nothing but, oh wow, sheriff stuff to portray. That's probably what they should have run with for the first few episodes at least. I'm really sorry that this show is so bad. I wanted it to be good. But, like Fire Country, these writers have to fall back on so much creative license that at some point you just have to say "Enough!" and find something else to watch. I started watching this because I wanted to see how Morena Baccarin did in a role outside of her comfort zone. She's had great roles in other shows and she wasn't bad here, but the rest of the show is just....tired already and the cliff hanger ending of episode 3 just wasn't enough to bring me back.
