I had high hopes for this movie because of the cast, but it just didn’t work for me on so many levels.
Anna, the protagonist of the film, is not a compelling character to watch because she comes off as extremely selfish. Her romantic relationship has grown stale, yet she starts the film lying to her partner which further creates distance.
When she finally meets someone at work who she has an attraction too…she gaslights him into thinking it’s one sided love and that she doesn’t have feelings based off this arbitrary love test, which is already very dubious from the beginning.
The film has a clever concept, and pretty cinematography, but the majority of the world felt like a Severance recreation, where there is contrasting future tech with outdated computers amidst a dreary, enigmatic office environment. Except in this case the world feels too unrealistic and empty to buy into. There is no larger mystery revealed, except the reminder that most of the characters are lonely, even those who pass the love test.
Also as another reviewer mentioned: how did Anna, as a teacher get hired to work at a love institute? This film just didn’t work for me.
